Influence of Synoptic‐Scale Waves on the Interdecadal Change in Tropical Cyclone Activity Over the Western North Pacific in the Early 2010s

Abstract In this study, we investigated the interdecadal change in tropical cyclone (TC) activity over western North Pacific (WNP) early 2010s. At boundary of WNP, TC exhibited a meridional tripole pattern. contrast to reduced northern South China Sea (SCS) and Taiwan, increased southern SCS north Shanghai after Herein, focused on WNP. Over last decade, frequent occurrences have affected East China, Korea Japan. work, examined influence synoptic‐scale waves (SSWs) activity. During 2011–2021 period, SSWs tended propagate northward, resulting more tracks affecting WNP surrounding countries. contrast, westward‐propagating before 2010s were likely favor westward‐moving TCs.
